The first important event of STA in Italy occurred in occasion of the Colombian celebrations in 1992, when, under the aegis of STAI, over 150 vessels, going over the Atlantic, started from Genoa. In 1996 there was a similar event with the first “Tall Ships’ Race in the Mediterranean”, on the route Genoa – Palma de Mallorca – Naples. STI programs count on the presence of the Tall Ships in the Mediterranean every four years. Every eight years a transatlantic race starting from the Mediterranean is foreseen.
